Biography

Hellooo! I'm Talia, and I'm a rising junior concentrating in Linguistics. I dabble in English, creative writing (strictly nonfiction), and literary theory. I transferred to Brown in the fall of my sophomore year from Scripps College in the Claremont Colleges Consortium. In addition to some sociolinguistics research, I’m a co-lead for the Linguistics DUG, and in general very lingthusiastic so please reach out with any questions.

Some things I do non-academically: I’m a BOLT leader (former BOLTER), and I highly recommend applying do BOLT! I am a member of Brown Ballroom Dance Team, the Philosophy Politics, and Economics Society, and a co-lead for Brown's chapter of Allied Scholars for Animal Protection. You can catch me desperately trying to find locations to podcast in, or procrastinating on all my assignments by attending every single talk or presentation or conference that I can possibly attend. There are so many cool people that come to Brown to enlighten us! If you can’t already tell, I'm obsessed with this university and the people here.

My advice for incoming students: first off, be proud of yourself! Take a breath. It’s going to be ok; you have complete academic freedom now. Next, grab Brown by the ovaries. Leave no resource untapped. Saturate yourself in this place—the classes, professors, clubs, activities, facilities, etc. There’s nothing you can’t do, so why not do as much as you can? But seriously, if you want specifics, I implore you to not take too many classes, and to make sure that you prioritize mental and physical health. Take a fitness class at the Nelson Center! Go for a walk to India Point Park! Go to office hours and soak up your professor's brilliance!! And of course, ask for help. That’s what we’re here for. Let’s grab a coffee at Plant City or Ceremony some time!
