Orientation programs give you important insights and information about Brown.

Orientation programs introduce you to academic, social and cultural life at Brown. As a new student, you are required to attend one of these programs for its full duration. These programs will provide you with insights into the campus experience, opportunities to engage with other students, as well as staff and faculty, and answers to many of your questions about starting out at Brown.

Parent and Family Welcome

The Parent and Family Welcome is an opportunity for parents and family members of newly admitted students to engage with faculty and senior administrators, experience the excitement of the start of the academic year, and meet each other while their students begin orientation.

Brown/RISD Orientation

Students beginning the Brown/Rhode Island School of Design Dual Degree Program will attend a specific BRDD Orientation and prioritize RISD Orientation events in their first year. BRDD first-year students attend specific events as part of Brown Orientation and are invited to participate in first-year group activities at Brown during Orientation and throughout the year.

Students entering their second year in the BRDD Program return to Brown with the incoming first-year class to take advantage of and more fully participate in Brown Orientation programs. Details, along with students' eligibility for Brown and RISD Pre-Orientation programs, will be emailed to BRDD Year 1 and Year 2 students.

How To Use the BrownU App

The BrownU App on a phoneThe BrownU app allows you to browse the many Orientation events, create a personalized schedule and access other campus resources, including maps to help you find your way around campus in the first few days. The app is free for you to use.

You can download  BrownU from the Apple App Store or the Android Marketplace.

Use the date selector at the top to navigate between dates. When viewing an event, you can tap Save Event to add it to your schedule; tap Saved at the top to view these events later. You can also tap Add to Calendar to add events to your phone's calendar. Updated information will be available in Summer 2023.
