The New Scientist-Catalyst (NS-Catalyst) summer program is a uniquely blended academic and orientation program for newly admitted students of all backgrounds who are committed to increasing the representation of historically excluded groups in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).

The program begins with an introductory 3-week online academic course that focuses on developing science concepts, problem solving, and learning skills. Through group activities and discussions online, you will be introduced to other incoming students in your cohort. Students are invited early to participate in various on-campus activities that focus on building community and becoming familiar with Brown’s campus.

Students who choose to move-in early will then transition to the Third World Transition Program (TWTP) or the International Mentor Program (IMP) to further build community on campus prior to orientation. The whole experience is meant to empower students in their pursuit of science and set them on the path to be future dynamic members of the New Scientist Collective (NSC). The application will be open in early June with acceptance decisions early July. If you have any questions, please email Dr. Christina Smith at christina_smith2@brown.edu
