Biography

Hi everyone! My name is Bella, and I’m a rising junior. I’m currently concentrating in linguistics, and I’m pursuing an independent concentration in linguistic power dynamics. I’m from Massachusetts, and transferred to Brown from Mount Holyoke College in the fall of 2025.

I’m interested in education and language, and am currently coordinating an AmeriCorps summer program that offers programming to refugee youth/English Language Learners in Rhode Island. I also spend about three hours a week teaching English to my tutee, who recently resettled in the U.S. from Colombia. (These two programs are called Camp RYSE and BRYTE.) Also at Brown, I’ve been a pianist in a jazz combo, an editor for Brown Journal of History, and a volunteer with a vital documents clinic in which we help people apply for things like disability bus passes and new birth certificates.

Making connections with people in downtown Providence and other communities has really helped me feel like I have roots here, and I recommend that to new TRUEs. There are so many wonderful opportunities here, and I think my biggest piece of advice for new students is to just trust that you will find the ones that are right for you!

Can't wait to meet you all!
