Joely Castillo
Biography
Joely is a RUE student, class of 2028, studying History and Africana Studies. She was awarded the Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellowship where she will be conducting research on colonial legacies and upward mobility in the Dominican Republic and preparing for a future PhD program. A native New Yorker + Harlemite, Joely has always loved music and spent much of her time before college involved in the arts. This is why she joined Shades of Brown, a multiracial, multiethnic, all gender a cappella group rooted in the African American tradition. On her spare time Joely likes to explore cafes in the providence area, find a good dance party, and review albums with her friends on their album review podcast Every Last Record. A true extrovert, Joely loves meeting new folks and is open to any and every inquiry the expanding TRUE community might have, feel free to reach out.
